Silphium (probably of the genus Ferula) was a plant that grew in the area of Cyrene, present day Libya, and was widely renowned as a spice, medicinal herb and perfume ingredient throughout the empires of the classical antiquity. It was praised by Greek philosophers and writers, as well as Roman emperors and cookbook authors.
There were many attempts to cultivate Silphium, but they inevitably failed. It would only grow wild in a limited area of the north African coast. This is combination with its qualities as seasoning and medicine made Silphium the most valuable spice in the world, outshining both saffron and cinnamon. The demand for Silphium eventually became so overwhelming that it was harvested to extinction, and the taste and smell of the once greatest spice in the world was lost in time.

Stora Skuggans rendition of this historical plant is created by researching surviving assumed relatives of Silphium, using aromachemicals (the molecular building blocks of scents) to create an accord that they feel represents what descriptions remains. This is set against a background of ancient incense, woods and leather.

Top notes: Silphium accord, cistus
Heart notes: Cinnamon, tobacco leaf, geranium, black pepper, ginger, clove
Base notes: Frankinscense, cedarwood, myrrh, leather

The famous Swiss naturalist Conrad Gessner is considered the founder of modern zoology, but as a true 16th century scientist he was also: a prominent physician, botanist, linguist and – of course – spelunking adventurer.

In his 'Descriptio Montis Fracti sive Montis Pilati' from 1555, he chronicles his climb to the summit of Mount Pilatus, but we also get to follow him into the caves of the Alps. 'At night, the moon shines into the cave so brightly the light itself seems to take form, like a mist. It gathers in the ceiling and makes the limestone stalactites glitter and gleam, dripping tears of white liquid into puddles on the rock floor that never dries. Moonmilk.'

Top notes: Black Tea, Lime
Heart notes: Cardamom, Lily of the Valley, Mandarin, Black Pepper
Base notes: Sandalwood (mysore), Tan Leather

Thumbsucker is the fifth fragrance from Stockholm based perfumery Stora Skuggan. It’s a narcotic nectar floriental inspired by the reason babies suck their thumbs according to Hindu mythology.
The fragrance is centered around a few key elements, sweet and exhilarating honey is mixed with the narcotic and slightly dirty flower narcissus. In the base the golden hue of honey is mirrored through Himalayan cedar, which is similar to cedarwood atlas but even sharper and unmistakably sacred in impression. Cherry, styrax and bitter almond creates a dissonant underside to balance the sweet nectar.

Top Notes: Honey and Narcissus
Mid Notes: Violet and Cherry
Base Notes: Himalayan Cedar, Bitter Almond, Styrax Balmsam and Candle Wax

30 ML Eau de Parfum

Music is essential to life. I was born in a house of blues – dad’s from Chicago. At 9 I went to camp on an island. Cool older punk kids showed me the Misfits and the Pixies. (One of those kids was actually comedian Rob Delaney). That summer was ruled by Doolittle. The provocative lyrics. The cackle of Frank Black. I absorbed it in the summer heat. August humidity. Young romance. Our Debaser scent is hot, humid, sexy. Green stems, deep purple fig, soft blond woods, a wet white ethereal musk, and the coumarin-vanillic note of tonka bean.

The other original mainstay of DSD along with Cowboy Grass. A truly old fashioned dandified visit to ye old barbershop through classic aromatic association – lavender, pine, mint, roses, vanilla – with a unique modern twist: devastating smoke.
Burning Barbershop is a fougere – a classic genre of usually men’s fragrances that use hay and vanillic notes with herbal lavender and the bitter green base of oakmoss. It is instantly recognizable on grandpas everywhere.
This is the scent of a fougere that’s been through fire. I imagine the bottle was full, cooking in the extreme heat of the blaze until the glass was black and cracked. After the embers had cooled, it was dug out underneath the rubble. Inside, stuck to the glass was the cooked resin of all that was fresh and inviting from the cologne. So you have the brightness of limes, cleanliness of lavender, joy of roses, zing of mint, and the sweetness of vanilla all cooked down into a rectified solid mass.

I think pistachio is an elegant nut. Also a fun nut. It's around good climes and everyone seems to dig it. We made this on a whim; a fragrance with no story that just evokes the fun of pistachio (especially as a dessert flavor). It was a STUDIO JUICE (limited edition of 100 bottles). People went nuts for the concept (pun somewhat intended) and we knew we had to add it to the line. It's dank & unabashedly sweet which is something I don’t normally do.
