Our neighbour Martin "Rocky" Kellerman has made his way across the street from his studio and can now be found at Nitty Gritty. We are very excited to open our doors and present his latest exhibition that is on display in our Men's and Women's Store. Original works collected from throughout his career are featured alongside new, never before seen pieces.
Well-respected and talented illustrator Martin Kellerman is the creator of Rocky, one of Swedens most recognised and beloved cartoon characters. Rocky was introduced in 1998 when the first cartoon strip was published in the free daily newspaper Metro. The autobiographical comic series follows a dog that lives and resides in Stockholm, Södermalm and his group of friends. Storylines are based on events from Martin Kellerman's life and portray everyday struggles, situations, conversations and relationships. Over the span of two decades Rocky was published in a long line of newspapers, became a series of books, was turned into a play and an animated tv-show. Martin has been praised for his on point depiction of life in Stockholm and quick witted dialogues, he has gained a loyal following and become a big part om many peoples daily lives.
Martin Kellerman has worked from his studio on Krukmakargatan since 1999 which has resulted in us being featured in a number of strips over the years. As longtime readers, fans and followers of his work we are very excited to now welcome him and Rocky to Nitty Gritty. Martin's exhibition is now open and can be found spread out between our Men’s and Women’s Store. A collection of original pieces from throughout his career are presented alongside never before seen works. Illustrations, lithographs, prints and hand-painted cava corks are part of the selection that can be purchased on the spot.
